Father’s Day BBQ: A Sweet Twist on Glenlivet

Over Father’s Day weekend we got my entire family together for a fun day of eating, drinking and playing tons of silly games. My dad has always been a whisky or scotch drinker, he will occasionally drink Soju, but those are his only (3) choices. We decided to take one of his all-time favorite drinks: Glenlivet 12 Year Old. But instead of serving it straight on the rocks as he usually prefers, we thought we’d try something different and experiment with flavors, we created a drink with a slightly sweeter twist.

Despite our best efforts, dad’s preference for his Glenlivet served straight on the rocks, but my mom and sister were pleasantly surprised by this variation and thought it was a sweet twist on an old favorite.. Here’s how you can recreate our Father’s Day Glenlivet cocktail, perfect for adding a touch of sweetness to a cherished classic.

  2. Second Shake: Open the shaker, add ice, and shake again to chill the mixture.
  3. Strain and Serve: Double strain into your chosen glass, either over ice in a rocks glass or without ice in a chilled coupe.
  4. Garnish: Add a zest of lemon to complete the drink.
  5. Enjoy: Serve and relish the creamy, silky twist on the classic Glenlivet.

Celebrating Together

Creating this Glenlivet, Maple Whiskey Sour cocktail for Father’s Day added a special touch to our family BBQ. It was a fun way to pay tribute to our dad’s favorite drink while introducing a new flavor that everyone could enjoy. The balance of the rich Glenlivet, tangy lemon juice, and sweet maple syrup, along with the optional frothy texture from the egg white or aquafaba, made for a delightful drink that bridged tradition and innovation.

Whether you stick with the classic on the rocks, try our sweet twist, or enjoy the mocktail version, raising a glass together is what truly makes the moment memorable. Cheers to all the dads who make our lives richer and to the small but meaningful ways we can show our appreciation.
